Description:
In the metal industry a lot of materials are processed in the form of flat straps. In the process metal straps are rolled up to coils. The coiling machines used for that need to be adjusted consistently, depending on the width and position of the strap. Distance measuring devices, such as the LDM41A are used for positioning the reels on the center of the strap. Due to their high precision and independence from the material surface properties, the coils or machine parts can be positioned accurate to the millimeter. In most cases, two laser distance measuring devices whose measured values are set against each other are deployed for this task in order to process different diameters or irregularly rolled coils. The capability to operate several devices on one bus line and to process the results in the control fast and in a central place make the LDM41P with an integrated PROFIBUS DP interface the perfect solution for positioning tasks in heavy machinery construction.
